The premise
A manuscript is more than a folder of scenes. Characters change across time, promises pay off chapters later, research supports specific claims, and a revision in book four can quietly contradict book one.
Cairn keeps those relationships visible beside the writing surface. Structure is a lens, not a template you must obey. AI is a thinking partner for questions and critique, never an author hiding inside an autocomplete field.

AI with boundaries
Cairn can identify continuity risks, interrogate a character's motivation, compare a scene with an arc, and surface questions worth answering. It is deliberately not a prose generator. The sentence-level voice in the manuscript remains the writer's.
Local models are the preferred path. A remote provider is optional, explicit, and used only for the material you choose to send. Your manuscript is not used to train labsly or third-party models.

Cairn is for novelists, screenwriters, and long-form storytellers who have outgrown a folder of documents but do not want a machine supplying the prose. It is especially useful for ensemble casts, long arcs, and series where memory becomes infrastructure.
